Workers Compensation

Íæż½ã½ãhas Workers’ Compensation insurance to protect faculty, staff and students who are injured while working for SMU. In accordance with Texas Insurance Code Section 1305 Íæż½ã½ãmust provide each employee with notice of the network requirements by providing a copy of the attached Employee Notification Packet.

If an Employee is Injured at Work

In the event of emergency medical needs, call Íæż½ã½ãPolice at 214-768-3333, or 911 if off campus.

Any work-related injury that is not an emergency to life and safety should be reported through our free dedicated nurse triage line at:

815-846-0010

The nurse will assess if the injury is self-care or if medical attention is required. It is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

An employee or someone acting on the employee’s behalf must notify the appropriate supervisor of an on-the-job injury or illness by the end of the work shift. The supervisor must then notify the Íæż½ã½ãOffice of Risk Management no later than 48 hours after the date on which the injury occurs or the date the employee knew or should have known of an illness. Failure to provide timely notice could result in denial of the claim.
