About
Kim Caolo is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, Board Certified Art Therapist, and Ph.D. Candidate specializing in expressive therapies at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Kim is trained in EMDR through EMDRIA, and in Jungian Sandplay from Sandplay Therapists of America. She began her work in the psychiatry department at a large metropolitan children's hospital in North Texas in 2005, working in general psychiatry, day treatment, suicide prevention, and pediatric eating disorder programs, where she currently provides counseling, play therapy, and expressive therapy services and supervision. She has served on the advisory board of the ÍæÅ¼½ã½ãSchool of Counseling and currently serves on the Advisory Board of the ACPE accreditation program for spiritual care professionals at the hospital. Kim served as project manager for the Katrina Aid Today program for the Texas divisional office of the Salvation Army, training Salvation Army and other non-profit agency professionals in effectively providing case management toward long-term recovery for survivors after natural disasters. In her current role, she specializes in trauma counseling, play therapy, expressive and somatic therapies, and the treatment of pediatric eating disorders for children, teens, and their families. She teaches and guides parents in using filial therapy strategies for children and teens as a component of therapy and recovery. She has taught expressive therapies to residents at the UTSW medical school, and has presented on topics related to Disaster Work, Sandplay, Eating Disorders, and Program Development at national conferences of the American Art Therapy Association. She was trained and has volunteered with the Journey of Hope Grief Support Center and has volunteered with the International Rescue Committee, Human Rights Initiative, and ibelong.org, serving special needs teens and young adults. She currently serves on the RISE Team, addressing secondary trauma and burnout in healthcare professionals. She is an adjunct professor in SMU's counseling program teaching The Art of Trauma Treatment: Expressive, Somatic, and Experiential Methods.
